LALA - June 2008 - R&B

lala
Listen: This Is Why I Fell
After winning the Top Scholarship Award at the Nelson Music Festival Tour in British Columbia, Canada as the Best Singer Musician in 1998, LaLa continued to reach for her dreams as a singer. LaLa picked up the guitar, taught herself how to play and began writing her own songs in the genre of folk/acoustic. She recorded 4 songs and that was just the beginning of her recording experience. After performing her acoustic songs at cafes and having success selling her demo, LaLa decided to try her talent and love for pop, r&b, and hip hop. Her interest and talent for dancing and choreography was incorporated with her singing. She wrote and recorded an album with musical influences such as Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, CelineDion, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, Missy Elliot, Michael Jackson, and Christina Aguilera. She fused her Chinese and East Indian roots and influences into her music and had Asian elements in her rhythms and melody. LaLa’shiphop/pop music was described as having the creativity and uniqueness similar to Missy’s and Method Man’s tracks.

After recording her first full hiphop album, LaLa expanded her studio experience as well as her network. She worked with various major and independent producers in Vancouver. Soon after, she worked with a producer that released a CD of anr&b group called “New School.” LaLa released a single on that CD distributed by Universal Music Records Canada in 2003. After showcasing her single, LaLaattained interest from rock producers as her stage presence and vocal style is a unique blend of pop sass and power rock. LaLa was asked to record a rock album in Belgium where she became interested in European rock scene. Melissa Ethridge, Evanesance, Pat Benetar, Blondie, Alannah Miles are always on her list of rock favorites. LaLa was able to develop her rock sense and talent for the genre. In 2004, LaLa worked on a side recording project and was in a duo group called “JeLL” developed by a Conneticut based company, Claviscape LLC. This pop oriented group recorded songs and commercials about the game of billiards had associations with ESPN’s pool tournaments. JeLL’s music airs on ESPN and is distributed online.

After having various experiences with several music genres, LaLa became very versatile but her love is still r&b/pop. The range of learning and musical challenges still weren’t enough for her.LaLa joined a Chinese singing talent contest put on by the leading Chinese TV station in Canada, Fairchild Television. LaLa competed and sang in Mandarin and Chinese. Because she was very westernized and did not speak Chinese well, LaLaworked very hard learning the songs phonetically and won second place in the contest. The contest had national radio, television, and printmedia coverage, and LaLa was immediately recognized and became popular in the Chinese community across Canada. She continued to develop her relationship with Fairchild Television performing for the community. Very shortly after the contest, LaLa entered David Foster’s Make A Wish Foundation Talent Search and was one of the 10 finalist in the Vancouver region. She sang for David Foster, Sue Foster, Clay Aiken, and Babyface.LaLa was greatly inspired by this experience.

It was not until October 2006, that LaLa made her biggest move in her music career. She left her studies in Masters of Education and her music elementary teaching position at the time as well as all the gigs she was doing singing at weddings, funerals, functions for local businesses, educational institutes, and community events in Vancouver.LaLa moved to New York to pursue her music career. LaLa has made several connections working with other indie and major production teams and producers in New York. She is now showcasing her originals, appearing on the radio and music videos, recording and collaborating with other recording artists, DJs, dancers and gigging with cover bands.LaLa recently came in second place at The Verizon Sing Contest put on in the Chinese New Year Chinatown Parade in New York.

LaLa met Mark Green, manager of the Bergen Performing Arts Centre, and recently opened up for 5 time award winning artist, Michael McDonald. She opened up for Davy Jones from The Monkees. LaLa also opened up for Johnny Kemp at Ashford and Simpson’s Sugar Bar. She has also revisited her involvement (as a solo artist) with Claviscape, LLC in Conneticut where her single called “Shooting Stars” is released on ITunes and Cd Baby. LaLa is currently working on making a video of “Yours Truly”. She is also back in the studio recording with various major producers (Bernard Belle, D-Moet), artists, and DJs (Grandmaster Flash). LaLa is driven to become a success story. An interviewer once asked her what fuels her to be so unstoppable and driven, and LaLa answered, “God has given me a talent, and I am going to take it to the fullest!”

Physha P - June 2008 - Hip-Hop

physha-p“Now what you hear is not a test, I’m rocking to the beat…”

“Walk this way, talk this way…”

“Live from Bedford Stuyvesant, the livest one…”

“Up jumps da boogie, da boogie jumps me…”

Hip-hop culture made its initial impact in the basements of urban youth circa the summer of 1979. Rapper’s Delight brought this new sound to the mainstream, and ever since then, innovative rap collaborations have created fresh sounds that have taken the genre in exciting, unpredictable directions. The hip-hop duo Physha P is ready to take their place among Sugar Hill Gang, Run DMC, Notorious B.I.G. and Diddy, and groundbreakers Missy Elliott and Timbaland. With passion and drive, earnestness and confident style, it is their mission to create “next-level hip-hop.”

Physha P is an innovative alternative/hip hop group with a sound as eclectic as their unusual name. Group members Arman “Bebe Boohgz” Dixon and Sumu “Wa Peace” Walusimbi are an unlikely pairing brought together by focus, drive, and a love of all things music.

Like many of music’s great duos, Bebe and Wa Peace met in the schoolyard, in Upstate, N.Y. The foes-turned-friends (over a girl, of course) put set aside their differences to form Universal Treat. The band of five eager grade school hip hop heads evolved into a three man high school group known as the “Hot Spittaz,” consisting of Bebe, Wa Peace, and high school friend Chris Mendez. But tragedy struck the budding super group, when a car accident claimed Chris’ young life. Bebe and Wa Peace kept moving forward with the spirit of their friend in their hearts, making their hunger for success even stronger. So began the story of Physha P.

For now, Physha P are signed to independent record label Da Fam Entertainment, and is taking New York, the birthplace of hip-hop, by storm with their energetic live show. Their music is generating buzz on MySpace, as well as an ever-growing legion of fans worldwide. Like their track “Goodbye” perfectly sums up: “This is all a feeling, playa.” The 80s funk and electronica experimentation of “Shorty’s Got Me” makes it both radio and club scene friendly. Physha P, like those artists who have made an impact before them, are driven by raw emotion, the key factor that makes their music so striking. Coupled with a commanding flow, undeniable swagger, and fun experimentation with the many musical influences that have shaped their entire lives, Physha P has the potential to impact the hip hop game forever, and to put their own stamp on youth culture.

Lightning and thunder clash, but together, they create a powerful unexplainable force. Physha P is ready to make history as an undeniable musical force. In their own words, “”they make the hip-hop music the hip-hop generation should have made.”

Da Council - May 2008 - Hip-Hop

tha-council-photo
Listen: Tipsy
THA Council, are: “Gutta”, “Short Fuze” & Blanco

All originally from the Bronx, NY. Relocated to Rockland County NY at
a very young age and attended Spring Valley High School.
Tha Council was formed in 1999 after the members broke away from
another group called Fort Knox. It was clear that the sound and style of
Gutta, Fuze and Blanco were compatible but did not fit with the others
they were working with at the time.

As a teenager, Gutta met Blanco and Fuze through a mutual friend and
the three eventually formed the group now known as “Tha Council”.
Tha Council officially became a Hip Hop Group in 1999 when they
signed with Big Roy of Onyx Management Services who is now the
CEO of HyDra Management Services.

After completion of the production schedule for their first CD, The Bronx
is Back, Gutta was incarcerated in spite of the fact that the only
evidence against him was circumstantial. However, in spite of this
unfortunate injustice, Tha Council’s CD was released on schedule. The
tracks were hot and the lyrics were angry, typical of street underground
rap.

Tha Council went on to release their second project titled “Gutta’sRevenge”. This CD demonstrated how Tha Council would even thescore on CD. Gutta put an intro on a track that was recorded via telephone while in a state penitentiary. Tha Council are featured on theMix Tape CD created for the book “Dirty Game” by Essence Best Selling Award Winner, Shannon Holmes. Tha Council are currentlyworking on the release of their 3rd CD with some serious interest from the music industry.

With performances under their belt all over the NYC Tri State areaincluding, The China Club, The Copacabana, The Latin Quarter, SOB’sBabalu’s, Mystique, Café Lou’s, Don Hills Concert Hall, and The Apollo,Tha Council are ready to take the industry by storm. Their goal is to secure a distribution deal which will allow them to record and showcase their lyrical skills and eventually produce other artists for HyDra Management Services.

HD - April 2008 - R&B

hd-jpeg
Listen: Run The Spot
A remarkable and innovative new group, is how you can describe H.D., which consists of one unique rapper whose compared to no others in the business and an R&B Crooner whose style is as unique as the sun. “High Definition” (HD) stands for the names of Heron, 21, the raspy but poetic sensational Bronx, NY native rapper, whose voice hypnotizes the audience having them salivating for more and Dwaine, a Trinidad and Tobago native who immigrated to Los Angeles, CA at the tender age of twelve. Dwaine is a quadruple threat talent, being a singer/writer/actor/model and a very good and astute businessman who formed the group. Dwaine is an R&B singer with his own style compared to none. However, if you were to compare him to another singer/crooner you would have to compare him to a Michael Jackson, Joe and Mario. Vocally trained by the master himself, Grammy award winning songwriter, Gordon Chambers. Dwaine has opened up for Keisha Cole and Boyz in Da Hood the spring of 2005. Dwaine, at the age of 21, still has much more room to mature as a singer, which will eventually put him at the top of the list of the greatest singers who ever lived.

The trio met through Heron’s cousin the famous new singing sensation Sean Kingston, whose new wave Pop/reggae style has taken the world by storm, and whose Album dropped in late July 2007. H.D started recording at the famous Hip/Hop and R&B music producer’s studio, whose moniker is Lucky, located in the Bronx where many famous artists record like Ron Artest.

H.D has already recorded several songs together which are sure to be hits by almost everyone’s standards especially Hip/Hop heads and new wave PoP/R&B fans. A few of the hit songs are “We Run This Spot”, “Still Ain’t Enough”, “Na Na Na”, “Ain’t Got Nothin’ On Me” and Angel to name a few.

D-Most - April 2008 - Hip-Hop

dmost
Listen: Geed Up
Hip Hop is not dead, it lives exactly where it started: The South Bronx. It is there where a young artist named D-MOST has been refining his craft.  Born in the fires of Hip Hop, his parents met while dancing to Grandmaster Flash on the turn tables at a park jam in 1978. Their love of Hip Hop led to D-MOST’s conception. Shortly after he began to speak, his parents noticed he had a knack memorizing and performing the records that his father was playing.  When D-MOST was five, his father had an older MC write some rhymes for him and he performed at his fathers park jam and blew the crowd away. The crowd had never seen such an astoundingly young MC spit with such fury and intensity. Since then he continued to develop his ability and came up with his own rhymes. Consistently writing by the age of 7, when he would spit his rhymes for his friends in the neighborhood, they would consistently become discouraged and walk away from the confrontation with the younger, fiercer MC. Growing up on the tough streets of the South Bronx, D-MOST was left to write more rhymes, writing 5 pages daily. He wanted to be the most prolific MC in his building, and committed himself to a strict regimen of writing and verbal gymnastics. At the age of 13, through the influence of his family, he started to record some of the thousands of rhymes that he had written over the years. He quickly learned how to work in a studio, and developed a great understanding of the songwriting and recording process. He was born to be an MC. He has been rapping since the age of three, and writing at the age of seven. He has been training to do this for his entire life. At the age of 21, he has already spent 18 years in the service of Hip Hop. Now, the South Bronx is proud to reveal Hip Hop’s Best Kept Secret: D-MOST.

Honee - March 2008 - R&B

honee-jpeg-w-text
Listen: So Emotional
Honee’s voice drips sincerity. A young woman with a deep well of life experience from which to draw from, Honee’s writing captures a wide range of human emotion. Passionate and raw, the young female talent puts her heart on the line every time she touches a microphone, her live shows a mixture of ingratiating shyness and outspoken, brash confidence.

Growing up in Ottawa, the capital of her home country of Canada, Honee’s involvement with music has been a life long affair. Beginning with singing in the church as so many of our greatest talents start, Honee didn’t just stick to one interpretation of her love for music. Dancing since a young age, Melissa trained in several different mediums from hip-hop to jazz to step. Also, being from Ottawa and living in Toronto, you know she holds it down in the Caribbean styles of dance too.

However this story is not simply about a young girl’s love for music, as that could never begin to tell us who Honee really is. Honee is a woman possessed and driven by a dream. She has surmounted several obstacles already on the way to realizing her vision and she will not stop until she sees it through. Living on her own since the age of 16, Honee had to learn quickly how to survive with only her to rely on. Working to complete her high school education and get rent paid while most girls in her school were pampered with everything from clothing to cars, Honee made it happen. It was just before she graduated from high school that Honee became pregnant. With the father of her first born becoming incarcerated and then subsequently deported from Canada to the Dominican Republic almost immediately after she found out she was with child, Honee had to do a lot of thinking. It was at this point that she decided to make a major change and left her hometown of Ottawa to move to the multi-cultural capital of the world, Toronto.

Setting herself up in Toronto, Honee began dancing with different crews and in music videos for several Canadian recording artists. Developing a strong network for herself in a short period of time she soon found out about Toronto based incubator The Remix Project. Applying and becoming accepted into the exclusive and extremely competitive Remix Recording Arts program, Honee began to put her life down on record in earnest. Working with Juno (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy) nominated producer and mixing engineer Noah Shebib (Nelly Furtado, K-os, Drake, Saukrates, Divine Brown); it was at Remix that Honee recorded her heartfelt record “So Emotional”. Catching the ear of everyone that heard it, from MuchMusic Video Director of the Year Randall “RT!” Thorne to Little X’s manager Taj of Maxamus Entertainment, So Emotional became an anthem at The Remix Project.

And it is from here that the rest of her story is waiting to be written. With accolades and awards won for her singing and dance all across Canada, Honee is now preparing to export her raw and unique sound to the rest of the world. An honest, determined woman whose voice drops sincerity with every note sung, the world should prepare for Honee, because for everyone involved it is without question that Honee’s eventual victory will be sweet.

HitMob - Jan. 2008 - HipHop

hitmob
Listen: Run The Streets
Although a picture paints a thousand words, a few words of a HITMOB verse creates vivid images in your mind that provoke thought and spark the imagination. That’s what HITMOB music is about – Highly Intense Thoughts Mastered Over Beats. These are the key elements that the Hip Hop industry is lacking. Remember the legendary KRS-1, Rakim and Kool G Rap who’ve paved the way for other powerful lyrists such as: TUPAC, BIGGIE, and NAS. There’s no question the Hip Hop industry is in serious demand for comparable MC’s. With respect to today’s artists: Eminem, 50 Cent, and Jay-Z the fact still remains that the supply is scarce. HITMOB is Hip Hop’s missing link. They are true artist that create music with substance. Those who have heard these two Newark natives bless a track can attest to the fact that there music consists of a powerful depth that goes beyond a mic and a beat. HITMOB music crosses into dimensions that many sorry excuses for creators of music have neglected or forgotten.  Noche: Prepared to make a strong impact in the hip hop game, Noche is one of the tightest lyricists ever to grip the mic. He rightfully believes that he belongs atop rap’s podium due to his lyrical dexterity and witty rhymestyle. His ability to mix “gangsta” with a masterful musical atmosphere is absolutely first rate.  S.O.S.: Son of Sam plans on becoming a major influential force in the hip hop genre. He is one of the toughest emcees spittin’ - resembling a rhyme animal clawing at opponents who are unaware of his lyrical prowess. S.O.S’ menacing voice and thunderous flow are what undeniably put him in the ranks among hip hop’s heavyweights. The ALBUM: Welcome 2 HITMOB, due to it’s brilliance is destined to go down in the history books. Welcome 2 HITMOB will revolutionize the sound of hip hop by giving you lyrical food for thought while simultaneously making you bounce… Son of Sam a.k.a. S.O.S. and Noche are like the yin and yang of HIP HOP. Their styles are different yet…the same. Separate… yet inseparable. They’re the perfect balance of good, evil, love, hate, joy and pain. Down to earth and true to Street, HITMOB aspires to initiate change by shedding light on the realities of urban life. A reality that they have endured everyday in Newark, like many others have in many ghettos around the world. Growing up in the hood, they’ve developed a code of ethics that they live and die by. Loyalty and Honor are principles in which they truly believe and are the essence of what it means to be part of the HITMOB movement. –The rest is music. It’s all there; all you have to do is…LISTEN!!!

Right now, she is just trying to get as much information as possible about the industry and get as much exposure as possible.

In the future, Dayna hopes to be a huge success. She wants to always

Eventually, Dayna would like to own her own record label and make other people’s dreams come true. There is nothing in this world that Dayna would rather do for the rest of her life except music. It is the only thing that truly makes her happy. Dayna Monet will stop at nothing to get to the top!
