Justin Bates is a Brooklyn resident by way of Chicago. J Bates has been living and working in Brooklyn since November of 2008, fresh off a 6 year enlistment in the Armed Forces. J Bates is a Hip Hop artist and R&B Songwriter currently undergoing the groundwork necessary to build a solid following and take his music to a higher platform of exposure. Since arriving in New York, J Bates has performed in a number of showcases at venues such as Webster Hall, Sullivan Hall, Village Underground, Brooklyn Bowl, Marfa Lounge, Katra Lounge, and The Morgan. He has worked closely with producers DJ Supa Daev of Darkshadez Productions, Analogic of Elementality Productions, and Madwreck of Dirty Art Club. His latest accomplishments include the release of the single “Love Life,” which was featured on DJ Booth, placing second in the “Get Your Buzz Up” showcase at Webster Hall, and winning the “Raise the Bar” showcase at Katra Lounge.

J Bates aesthetic focal point is enjoying and appreciating life. He deeply believes that his obligation to humanity is inspiring everyone he comes in contact with. Confidence is the belief that others think highly of you, and arrogance is only thinking highly of yourself. In a genre of music (Hip Hop) where merit is mostly placed on how arrogant an artist is, J Bates stands out by placing the integrity of the craft and the inspiration people find through his music above everything else. Art is the expression of emotion, and J Bates believes that his responsibility as an artist is to thoroughly express the emotions of people who don’t have the ability to express it for themselves. Jimmy Noel better known by his stage name Jimi (an acronym for Jump Into My Imagination) is a tall, dark and handsome gentleman with a true gift. Jimi grew up listening to R&B at a very young age and has been diagnosed with it forever. Music pioneers such as Usher, Stevie Wonder, and Maxwell have inspired the Brooklyn native.  Jimi also has a talent of sketch art, and looks to paint a beautiful picture for himself in music. Jimi’s passion at a young age was also basketball.  So now you have a singer former college basketball star (Montel Jordan for reference). He is a true natural artist.

In the world of hip-hop where new, yet underwhelming acts arise daily, rapper LE Double NY emerges as a true stand-out talent, as dedicated to the movement as he is to the craft.

Born Lenny Lavergne and affectionately known as “Flaco” to friends and family, LE Double NY delivers an authentic style of hip-hop that fuses both his East-Coast American and Afro-Caribbean roots. Born to Dominican parents, he was raised in New York City until his family relocated to New Jersey during his pre-teen years. According to LE Double NY, “It’s important to unite New York and New Jersey together because there are too many similarities – same radio stations, rapping tendencies, and swagger. Why not bridge the gap?”

His cultural background has only added to LE Double NY’s appeal as a skilled hip-hop artist and educated music-lover. “Since I was young, my parents have been listening to both English and Spanish music” he says. “Name any song from the Eighties – English or Spanish – I will know it, not to mention almost every one of my uncles can play a musical instrument.”

LE Double NY began his own love affair with music at the young age of 11. With respect to his hip-hop predecessors, he began re-writing song lyrics to personalize them to himself and his own experiences. Soon after, in junior high, he began writing and free-styling his own original music.

During his college years at Howard University in Washington, DC, LE Double NY began actively making music to fulfill his passions and entertain an ever-growing fan base. He formed DTO Records with fellow artists and released a conglomeration of mixtapes, such as “THE LE DOUBLE NY n GORDO” Mixtape (2002) and “Step Your Game Up” (2004). He also lent his talents with guest appearances on several other mixtapes, such as “A Lo Fuke” Volumes 1 and 2, “Spanglish 101”, “Got Bars” and “The Sneak Preview.” LE Double NY currently resides in New York City and is working on his latest mixtape, “Dream Chasing” which conveys the very message of its title.
