Listen: So Emotional
Honee’s voice drips sincerity. A young woman with a deep well of life experience from which to draw from, Honee’s writing captures a wide range of human emotion. Passionate and raw, the young female talent puts her heart on the line every time she touches a microphone, her live shows a mixture of ingratiating shyness and outspoken, brash confidence.

Growing up in Ottawa, the capital of her home country of Canada, Honee’s involvement with music has been a life long affair. Beginning with singing in the church as so many of our greatest talents start, Honee didn’t just stick to one interpretation of her love for music. Dancing since a young age, Melissa trained in several different mediums from hip-hop to jazz to step. Also, being from Ottawa and living in Toronto, you know she holds it down in the Caribbean styles of dance too.

However this story is not simply about a young girl’s love for music, as that could never begin to tell us who Honee really is. Honee is a woman possessed and driven by a dream. She has surmounted several obstacles already on the way to realizing her vision and she will not stop until she sees it through. Living on her own since the age of 16, Honee had to learn quickly how to survive with only her to rely on. Working to complete her high school education and get rent paid while most girls in her school were pampered with everything from clothing to cars, Honee made it happen. It was just before she graduated from high school that Honee became pregnant. With the father of her first born becoming incarcerated and then subsequently deported from Canada to the Dominican Republic almost immediately after she found out she was with child, Honee had to do a lot of thinking. It was at this point that she decided to make a major change and left her hometown of Ottawa to move to the multi-cultural capital of the world, Toronto.

Setting herself up in Toronto, Honee began dancing with different crews and in music videos for several Canadian recording artists. Developing a strong network for herself in a short period of time she soon found out about Toronto based incubator The Remix Project. Applying and becoming accepted into the exclusive and extremely competitive Remix Recording Arts program, Honee began to put her life down on record in earnest. Working with Juno (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammy) nominated producer and mixing engineer Noah Shebib (Nelly Furtado, K-os, Drake, Saukrates, Divine Brown); it was at Remix that Honee recorded her heartfelt record “So Emotional”. Catching the ear of everyone that heard it, from MuchMusic Video Director of the Year Randall “RT!” Thorne to Little X’s manager Taj of Maxamus Entertainment, So Emotional became an anthem at The Remix Project.

And it is from here that the rest of her story is waiting to be written. With accolades and awards won for her singing and dance all across Canada, Honee is now preparing to export her raw and unique sound to the rest of the world. An honest, determined woman whose voice drops sincerity with every note sung, the world should prepare for Honee, because for everyone involved it is without question that Honee’s eventual victory will be sweet.
